Lexington
Lexington, home of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010,
is the second largest city in Kentucky. Located in central Kentucky
in Fayette County, Lexington is often referred to as the “Horse
Capital of the World” and for good reason. The Kentucky Horse
Park, host of the WEG, is a 1,200 sqft equestrian center, working
horse farm and educational center. Keeneland Race Course ranks as
one of the greatest thoroughbred tracks in the country and home
to quarterly horse sales that attracted buyers from around the world.
The Red Mile is one the most famous harness racing tracks and the
second oldest in the country. With its history steeped in horse
tradition and numerous horse farms, many that offer tours, it’s
no wonder that Lexington was chosen as the site of the World Equestrian
Games in 2010.
If you need a break from all the horses, Lexington has a lot to
offer its visitors, from museums such as the Aviation Museum, Mary
Todd Lincoln House and The Headley-Whitney Museum; to sporting events
from the University of Kentucky’s athletic program and the
Kentucky Legends baseball team, a minor league affiliate of the
Houston Astros.
