FEI World Equestrian Games
For the first time in its history, the World Equestrian Games are
coming to the United States and are taking place right here in Lexington
Kentucky. Often referred to as the “Horse Capital of the World”,
Lexington has a deep history rooting in horses, from equestrian
to thoroughbred racing. This is a monumental event, not only for
Lexington but also the United States.
Administered by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), the
World Equestrian Games is a global event considered by some to be
more important than the Olympics. Held every four years since its
induction in 1990, the WEG is comprised of 8 equestrian disciplines
that include dressage, eventing, jumping, reining, endurance, driving,
vaulting and for the first time at the WEG, para-dressage.
The World Equestrian Games will last 16 days from September 25
– October 10, 2010 at the beautiful 12,000 acre Kentucky Horse
Park. The WEG is expected to attract roughly 600,000 spectators
to Lexington over that period of time along with 800 athletes and
900 horses from 60 countries around the world.
NBC’s coverage of the World Equestrian Games will make it
the largest televised equestrian event ever in the United State
not to mention the largest sporting event in the US in 2010.
